About Kichonge

Baraka Kichonge is a dedicated expert in Mechanical and Sustainable Energy Engineering fields. His academic journey began at Tanga Technical Secondary School and advanced through several prestigious institutions in the country. He earned a Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Automotive Engineering from Technical College Arusha (TCA), followed by an Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT). He then obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, followed by a Master’s in Production Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM).

He holds a PhD in Sustainable Renewable Energy Engineering from the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), where he also completed a postdoctoral degree in Sustainable Energy Science and Engineering.

Administratively, he has held key leadership positions at Arusha Technical College (ATC), including Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and College Registrar. Currently, he serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Acting Director of Academic Support Services. He also contributes academically as adjunct faculty member at the School of Material Energy Water and Environmental Sciences (MEWES) at NM-AIST, where he teaches and supervises postgraduate students.

His research focuses on innovative renewable energy solutions, such as solar-assisted heat pump dryers, cooling systems, and biofuel production from non-edible oilseed plants. He has published extensively and holds among others patents for sustainable agricultural drying and cooling technologies, demonstrating his commitment to practical, energy-efficient solutions. He also serves as reviewer in a number of journals.

Driven by his passion for sustainable energy, he continues to inspire future engineers and scientists in renewable energy engineering, contributing to the advancement of eco-friendly technologies in Tanzania and beyond.
