Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering

Our curricula are designed to outfit for the needs of students, future employees, and employers in the field of Electrical and Automation Engineering (EAE). Therefore, the program is geared towards producing innovative, creative, flexible work force and entrepreneurs.

Our program delivery is based on Competence Based Education and Training (CBET), learning by doing approach through normal lecturers, laboratory and workshop sessions in every semester.

Electrical and Automation Engineer may serve in the production, construction, manufacturing and processing industries after successful completion of the respective study requirements.

This program, training is offered at a Bachelor Degree level (National Technical award level 7-NTA 8).

Programme Philosophy

The philosophy behind this programme contents is geared towards producing innovative, creative and flexible graduates. As such students are given opportunity to specialise in the fields of their or market interest through various options provided.

The philosophy of the programme is based on the following principles and assumptions:

a)      To provide foundations of basic principles, competencies and expertise that will give the greatest opportunity for graduate career development

b)      To facilitate changes in interest, specialities, roles and responsibilities.

c)      To provide in depth understanding of variety of advanced electrical and biomedical engineering applications and systems.

d)     To stimulate student interest in designing related to electrical and biomedical engineering applications and motivation in pursuance of further knowledge, research and imaginative thinking.

e)      To produce graduates who are ready to enter the engineering employment and flexibly satisfy the needs of industry.

f)       To satisfy the requirements of the National Council for Technical Education which is regulating Technical Education in the Country

Objectives of the Programme

The objectives of the programme are to establish:

a)      Appropriate basic practical and analytical competencies in product design, development engineering, commissioning and manufacturing processes in the context of the market economy and financial control.

b)      An appreciation that the solution to electrical and biomedical  engineering problem must involve the integration of wider engineering disciplines, consideration of their economic and environmental consequences and the employment of non-technical disciplines, such as financial management and marketing, all of which are necessary contributors to the success of the student

c)      Initiative, imagination, perception and confidence sufficient to cope with new situations, problems and ideas by critical analysis of situations, synthesis of practical solutions and application of new idea;

d)     Potential knowledge for creative and critical thinking, including critical self-awareness.

e)      The ability to communicate with members of an organisation at the same, higher and lower levels of expertise or responsibility.

Admission requirements.

 

Qualified applicant should be holders of Ordinary Diploma certificate (NTA level 6) in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering/Biomedical Engineering OR Electronics Engineering or Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering all with at least GPA of 3.0 and at least four O’-Level passes (Ds and above) and two of these passes must be mathematics and Biology OR

 

Qualified applicants should be holders of Full Technician Certificate in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering/Biomedical Engineering OR Electronics Engineering or Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering all with at least average of C grade (3 points) and at least four O’-Level passes (Ds and above) and two of these passes must be mathematics and Biology

 

Mode of training.

Our students enjoy training delivered by experienced local and international faculties in vast areas of the engineering fields. Every semester we have planned site visits and industrial excursions. Our students enjoy broad range of exposure to various areas of the engineering fields through excursions and existing infrastructures at our workshops, laboratories and industries within and outside the city.

Annually, students shall take industrial internship for ten (10) weeks where they may have access to modern facilities while mingling with industrial supervisors, through this approach our students easily links training at the college with actual applications in the workplaces.

Besides normal practical sessions, we also provide opportunities for students to undertake mini projects on the course of semester training to apply skills and knowledge obtained in specific modules in a respective semester.

With such training approach, we have built competent graduates who serve in the industry as well as self-employment.

 

Expected competencies.

 

It is expected that the graduates from this programme will have aspirations to become professional engineers. As such they will likely take roles involving high level managerial and organizational responsibility and be expected to provide leadership over a broad range of engineering activities. Skills required for such roles will be acquired from Management and Entrepreneurship subjects. This will involve computations using controllers; microcontrollers, PLC however those courses are supplemented with entrepreneurship skills.
